What are you doing to beat the high cost of gas?

Relying on the basics my mother taught me. She learned her conservative/frugal skills as a child during the aftermath of the Great Depression. I was raised to be frugal and it is during times like these that it does pay off. What I do is this:

Keep a well stocked pantry with items we use frequently. Only buy them when they are on sale and stock up. Canned goods and paper goods do not go bad.

Limit my errands to one or two days a week. Cluster all errands in nearby areas together. This way I use less gas.

Grow a vegetable garden. I currently grow strawberries, peas, beans tomatoes, squash, onions and asparagus. Grow what you like to eat most.

Close all shades during the heat of the day. It will keep your house cooler and use less energy for air conditioning. Turn of lights and appliances when not in use.

The only things I have changed during this economic downturn is I go out to eat a lot less and I avoid impulse buying by sticking to a list of essentials.

I have also cut back on movie-going. I only see one or two blockbusters on the big screen. The rest I wait until they come out on video and I rent them.
Instead I burn tobacco.

i hope the gas prices skyrocket so we can grin em to death and destruction. and then finally there will be some considerable changes, because I think even almighty republicans want the prices of gas to be lower so they can pollute the earht even more and global warming.
